Our Theater class performed the comedy Fast Food by Tracy Wells this Friday at the Scoundrel and Scamp Theater. They have been working toward this show all semester. Their peers and teachers showed up to support them and absolutely loved the show! They will giving a second performance tomorrow, if you missed it.

Shout-out to Zach, Lead Teaching Artist from the Scoundrel and Scamp Theater! He is back at Kino for a second year, creating a positive, non-judgmental space for students to explore the performing arts. Here he is, leading the final vocal warm-up before the performance.
Shaking Things up with Serena
Our school counselor, Serena, has been leading social-emotional learning activities with each homeroom. She read The Moody Cow and taught the students to make a meditation jar full of our “frustrations” (glitter). Every homeroom gets to keep their jar, and when we are feeling frustrated or moody, we can shake it up, and breathe as the dust settles. It was a big hit!
This week our school counselor, Serena, organized the best career day Kino has ever seen! All of our junior high and high school students had the chance to chat with professionals from a diverse range of careers. The students got to play with thermal cameras, movie props, and take home cool stickers and info. Check out some of the highlights!

While our big kids considered careers, our little ones worked on building their number sense and calculation skills. Noelle uses her vast teaching experience and huge amounts of care for each student to create an individualized program full of fun games and manipulatives! Every primary student makes progress at their own level.

Check out these snapshots of our annual Halloween celebration! We called off the afternoon classes and every homeroom hosted a fun activity, from potion making to dance parties to a costume contest. We went all out!
James and the Giant Peach Field Trip
High School Contemporary Lit and Mid-level ELA saw the musical theater adaptation of James and the Giant Peach! It starred our very own Reese as the evil Aunt Sponge.
In a few months, the Kino Theater class will be putting on a production of their own. Stay tuned!
Our Midlevel Language Arts teacher, Mary Ellen, is trading places with her students! Every student has the opportunity to become the teacher for a day. Gilly planned her lesson on parts of speech and writing sentences, and Alistair led one on Matilda by Roald Dahl!
Primary’s Earth Orbit Project
Our Primary students are learning about the history of the universe with Noelle. They narrowed it down to our solar system, then made models showing our Earth’s orbit around the sun. Archer is particularly excited to show off his work!
Our literature-loving 9th graders, Madeleine and Joan, are spearheading the creation of Kino’s first student-led book club! We will meet in the library every Wednesday to read and chat. Their first selection? Animal Farm by George Orwell.

Annual Pumpkin Paint Off!
The generous folks over at Sprouts Farmer’s Market donated pumpkins for our pumpkin paint off! Art students of all ages submitted their original artwork for consideration at this Saturday’s Hoedown. Come on down to the animal center from 4:30-6:30 on 10/19 to play games, eat great food, and cast a vote for your favorite pumpkin! Costumes are optional, but always appreciated. 🧙♀️🤹🧚♂️
